“Family ties” features the cousin duo, Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar, and much like the lyrics boast “2021 aint take no prisoners,” neither did they. They left it all on the track.
Many dont know that the dynamic duo didn’t begin on “Family Ties.” Keem is a 20 year old rising star who has both songwriting and production credits on Kendrick Lamar’s project Black Panther. The family that gets paid together, stays together; and to answer a question posed in the lyric of the song “What is the pros & cons of the next check?” For the cousin duo, it appears, the only pros here will be zeros.
Baby Keem’s style is an equal balance of Hip Hop and Trap, which will definitely keep the attention of the listeners and take them on a journey as they relate to lyrics surrounding topics like emotions and relationships. He has cited Kid Cudi as a strong inspiration, helping to steer his cadence and strong use of percussion. But, don’t get it twisted, as hard as his music hits, he does have a soft side. As is apparent in the collaboration with Queen Bey on “The Nile” which was featured on the critically acclaimed soundtrack for Disney’s The Lion King.
While working hard on his own album, he also took time out to grace the presence on Kanye West’s latest album, “Donda” appearing on the song “Praise his God” alongside Travis Scott.
But wait, there is more! “Family Ties” was just the single released this month. What’s next? The debut album, The Melodic Blue is scheduled to be released on September 10, 2021. Peep the visual below!
