Shawn Corey Carter, aka. Jay-Z has officially become the most Grammy-nominated artist in music history.
With the upcoming 64th Grammy Awards slated for 31st January 2022 in Los Angeles, Jay-Z has been nominated for three awards, which now brings his tally to a total of 83 Grammy nominations in his music career. With this number, Jay-Z has now ousted former Beatle, Paul McCartney, who has 81 Grammy nominations to his name, and producer Quincy Jones, with whom they have been tied at 80 nominations each for a while.
Jay-Z received his first-ever Grammy nomination a while ago. In 1999, he was nominated for the best rap album, best rap solo performance, and best rap performance as a duo or group. That same year (1999), he went ahead to win the prize for the best rap album “Vol. 2 … Hard Knock Life.” He has now won 23 Grammy awards since then.
Last year, Beyoncé (Jay-Z’s wife) became the most decorated woman ever in the history of the Grammys. The pop star also received nine nominations at the 63rd Grammy-Award ceremony, which made her the most nominated artist in that year. She walked away with four out of her nine nominations. Beyoncé has a tally of 28 Grammy awards to her name.
