Amassing over 2.6 million followers is quite the accomplishment. Content creator and singing sensation Raquel Reigns has not only won hearts of minds on social media , she turned a space under an elevated subway into a tourist attraction while displaying spectacular vocal range and control.  In this interview, she discusses her rise to fame and future endeavors.

You are famously known for your Subway Sessions where you sing beneath an elevated transit bridge. How did it all begin?

During the pandemic, when public transportation was less popular due to health concerns, I decided to start commuting to work on a scooter. One day, as I was passing by my usual train stop, I started singing loudly and was surprised to hear my voice echoing through the open archways. I quickly pulled out my phone to record myself singing a vocal challenge from TikTok, and was thrilled with the response I received. I ended up returning to that spot multiple times to record more song requests.

Having amassed over 2.7 million followers on TikTok, what would say has been key to building your brand?

Consistency. My audience became accustomed to my daily posts and I thought of myself as providing a service to people stuck at home during hard times.

How would you best describe the overall content that you create?

Entertaining. I sing most genres and enjoy performing. I don’t hold back the animation in my voice or facial expressions. Light hearted and positive. I strive to bring good energy to my content. People can tell when creators are into what they’re doing or not.

Have you consider pursuing a career in other aspects of the entertainment industry?

Not seriously. But I think it could be rewarding to assist someone else make their dreams come true. So, possibly a manager type position.

Tell us some of the people who have inspired you musically?

Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, Brandy, and K. Michelle. I really love Sza’s versatility as an entire artist. She writes thrilling stories through song and has the vocals to keep her fans singing her music.

You perform a wide range of music, do you have a preference as far genre?

Musical theatre. I am still developing my personal sound and having a script with characters already developed takes the pressure off me to reinvent the wheel.

As an influencer, who are some of the brands you have partnered with over the years?

Audible, Sony, Harvest Snaps, and Mobile Legends.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about what you do?

People think that I am faking my performance under the bridge. That either I’m lip syncing or editing the sound in post. It’s actually one of my favorite compliments because they are saying it sounds too good to be true.

Where do you hope to see yourself in the next five years?

In five years, I see myself as healthy and abundant. I see myself helping people and having opportunities to travel with a successful career in the entertainment industry.

Do you ever worry about the hazards of being such a public figure?

Sometimes. I worry about any backlash my family members might face for my behavior.

Keep going. You are going to be living on this planet for a while so might as well do what brings you joy.
