Unapologetic about her findings in the music industry, actress Issa Rae, whose five-season run with HBO’s Insecure is finally coming to a close this weekend, has labeled the music business as a hub of Archaic mentalities, Villains, and criminals.
As a proprietor of the new record label company “Raedio,” which announced its partnership with Atlantic Records back in 2019, no one would imagine that Rae would later lash out on the music business as it was in her recent interview with one of the media outlets. The LA-based producer and actress, who is trying to branch into the music industry, revealed;
“I thought Hollywood was crazy, but the music industry, it has to start all over again. There are lots of conflicts of interest. Archaic mentalities. Villains and criminals! It’s an addiction industry, and I really feel for artists who need to get into it. It was something shocking to discover.“
During her interview with Los Angeles Times, Issa Rae also made mention of the unfair reward system in the Grammy Awards that are meant to reward artistic creativity and uplift artists. Notably, she expressed her dissatisfaction with Nigerian-based star Wizkid’s “Essence” record that the institution did not properly acknowledge as one of the best records of the year. “This is dumb, but I’ll say it anyway,” she said.
Issa Rae is currently producing her new show about aspiring rappers. She also just completed filming the HBO Max series “Rap Sh*t,” a new series in which she does not appear on-camera but has the two members from the hip-hop duo City Girls as the executive producers.
