New York City has many Mcs on the rise, and Kony Brooks is one to look out for. The Bronx Mc holds no qualms about his superior skill. Along with his skill set he’s also a very versatile artist. In his music you’ll find vulnerability, life experiences, social commentary, and light hearted topics. Sonically he also brings diversity.
His interest in music would began as early as 7 as he’d begin writing and reciting rhymes. When he got to High School he signed up for a program that provided a Hip Hop class. Giving him his first access to a recording studio, performing, and unknowingly going through artist development. He credits Jive Poetic for these opportunities as a mentor in the program.
Kony would use his experience to pursue music releasing his first solo mixtape “K.O.N.Y. State of Mind” in 2010. He’d spend the following years releasing more projects, performing, doing guest features, reeking havoc in cyphers, and solidifying himself as one of the premier artists carrying the Torch.
His recent release “855” continues the Mcs brand of quality work. You can expect high level lyricism that fits with great song writing, and diversity sonically. Songs like “Found You” & “Imma Do It” show his range. Kony not one to shy away from personal topics Kony says “This is the first time I found the balance between speaking my truth and being entertaining”
When asked about the importance of representing for NYC Kony states “being born and raised in the mecca of Hip Hop, it’s important for me to keep the essence alive. I love the direction that the music is taking and I want to continue to bridge the gap”.
