British rapper and activist M.I.A lets go of her new song titled “Babylon,” including the video. M.I.A had earlier announced during an Instagram live video about the upcoming song and her thoughts about NFT.
Unprecedented in her approach, M.I.A released her new track as an NFT (non-fungible token). This roughly means that whoever buys the song receives a certificate verified by blockchain technology, which after, he becomes the sole owner of the MP4 file. However, it cannot yet assert rights to the song itself or control its distributions in the major streaming platforms.
For anyone interested in coppin Babylon, on Friday November 12th, M.I.A announced the auction with a starting price set at 11 ETH (Ethereum cryptocurrency). This currently corresponds to 45 693.23 US dollars. In addition, M.I.A is also offering her mixtape Vicki Leekx, originally from 2010, as an NFT.
All proceeds from her two selling NFTs are dedicated as relief to the Courage Foundation. She supports journalists, human rights activists, and whistleblowers.
You can follow the auction on the Foundation platform and on her website ohmni.com, but in the meantime, peep the visual below and be sure to drop us your thoughts!
