Over the past few years there have been conversations about the status of R&B music. Wherever you stand on the topic of quality, Long Island Songstress Kamaria Sarai definitely brings that.
Discovering her voice at 7 years old during a Car ride with her mom while singing along with a Selena song would be her start. Realizing she sounded good her Mom put her in the Church Choir as many greats have started out. Kamaria’s Father also was a singer and influenced her with the Oldies R&B. As she grew and developed her style she would incorporate these sounds, styles, and melodies.
She also list Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill as heavy influences. While Kamaria may be influenced by them she absolutely has come into her own aura. Her debut Ep “On Purpose” will show that, an absolutely well produced and cohesive project. Released on December 7 2022. While it is diverse it’s clear she is here to sing, even the rap features mesh really well. It gives a very sultry, inviting, melodic feel.
Starting the Ep with “All Night” the tone was set perfectly. A very melodic vibe with an enticing feeling, what used to be referred to as “Love Making Music”. “Are You That Somebody” Kamaria speaks on the possibility of finding the potential love most are hoping for. On “I’m Good” she changes up the pace, its more of an uptempo dance feel. Also addressing those relationships we all must move on from. Overall a great Ep
You can catch Kamaria performing throughout the Tristate, also she has been branching out to places like California and Georgia. She is serious about her craft and definitely an artist to be on the lookout for.
