The NBA Off Season has gotten off with a bang with a lot of movement from teams looking to gear up for the 2022-23 season. The best teams, as well as some of the league’s normally average squads, have made significant moves to get prepared for next season. The NBA Champion Golden State Warriors have lost Otto Porter, Juan Toscano-Anderson and Gary Payton II. Payton II was rewarded with a free agent contract from the Portland Trailblazers for 3 years, $28 million dollars. Payton II, the Son of NBA legend Gary Payton, was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks and cut numerous times by several teams including the Warriors, with whom he had the most success as recent as this past season. NBA champion runner up Boston Celtics have traded for Malcom Brogdon and Danilo Gallinari, who signed with the Celtics as a free agent, which makes their heavy rotation that much, more deeper on the bench.
In some crazy and mind boggling news, surrounding the NBA free agent period, the Utah Jazz have seemingly detonated a grenade to their franchise, and traded 3-time defensive player of the year, Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves for a slew of draft picks.
Lastly, Kevin Durant….and Kyrie Irving….. According to reports, KD has requested a trade away from the Brooklyn Nets. His preferred destinations are reportedly Phoenix and Miami. Kyrie Irving opted into his contract with the Nets after much speculation that he would opt out. As of now, neither side has any confirmation where and when Irving and Durant will be traded. Irving would need to be traded via a sign and trade deal that would include possibly other teams trading players to match salaries, and Durant requesting a trade with four years left on his contract is going to also be tough because of how many players and or draft picks the Nets would command. Or, is all of this just a ruse and the Nets will be bringing Durant and Irving back for the 2023 season? The NBA season has just ended but the season never ends when players are consistently on the move.
