“Some Raps to End 2024.” That’s what Jay In 88 dropped off today! Enigma is the sophomore follow-up to his first solo release: Child of the Culture (2023). 1/3 of Cypher Clique, Jay In 88 represents for Dover, Delaware, by way of Cambria Heights, Queens, NY.
“Enigma is a balance of everything. There’s a song, “Day Shift,” about the everyday 9-5 job. Child of the Culture was freestyles with basic hooks. Enigma is me stepping into conceptual songs.”
Enigma‘s first single “Twelve Ten” features a verse from Lani$ and a new video drop to go with it. Kash Only, Eli P & Juan Giovanni give the EP a fly blend of MCing and spoken word with soul and jazz grooves, courtesy of production by James Major & Bonafide Beatz. “Tequila Sunrise” is already my fave!
Long live the all-black durag! Enigma‘s album cover of Jay In 88 is an original work of art by MFJimm. (Jay is known to keep a crisp pair of white AF1s in the tuck. For the culture!)
Safe to say Jay In 88 is outside! (I just bumped into him at Gunn Basel in Miami last week.) Back in October, Jay did his thing in a freestyle competition at AllHipHop’s 2nd Annual Hip-Hop Cultural Summit with special guests, Flavor Flav and Councilman Dupré “Doitall” Kelly. But, Jay and the fellas are not done yet. Get ready for them to join the lineup at Unity Music Fest 2025 featuring Conway the Machine, Trina, and Eness vs Ave: The Rematch!
