Greetings, good people! Today, we get some game from Y.N.X.716, an MC and entrepreneur from Buffalo, NY. Dropping quality project after project is not easy, but Y.N.X. does it consistently well. The music, artwork, multimedia, and more – all him. (Read more about the Bandcamp champ here.) Let’s get into this…
How do you maintain your independence as an independent artist?
YNX716: I maintain the independence by being self-sufficient. Just about anything that is needed to write, produce, record, and distribute music, I can do it all on my end. With us living in a content society, even the content piece I’ve been doing independently. I’ve been observing how frequent content is being posted and shared on a daily and making sure to be consistent by staying in peoples faces. I’m learning all it takes is one piece of content to change everything.
What new skills are you learning?
YNX716: I have been researching certifications that make sense for what I’m doing. Definitely looking at A.I.
What about your income streams?
YNX716: I have not begun to publicize all my services yet so the income streams vary based on need and what I can take on at the time. In addition, I am taking time to slow down to figure out how to monetize everything I do. Most things that I have no choice but to do for myself, I often keep it as a service strictly for me until the time is right.
What do you see on the horizon for indie artists this year?
YNX716: I see us taking our freedom back. We are too comfortable with allowing a middle entity to deliver our blood, sweat, and tears. We need to focus on direct consumer. If you have a website, push the listeners to something you can control.
